Down

It has a '90's alt-rock feel with great lyrics and I really can't make it through without turning my volume all the way up.

Something I Said

I'm fairly positive that SafetySuit is one of the most underrated bands.
An opening verse which states "I'm so confused, I must be losing it, this can't be right, I never knew that you could choose to love someone then change your mind, so I just wonder why and was it something I said" is more relatable than most break-up song lyrics and the bands always awesome use of emotional compositions and, of course, those scratchy vocals, make the song great.

Crash

This band is just so good; there is not a single song that can not be played on repeat, nor is there a single song you can't relate to in some way.

Gone Away

I want sleep. And coffee. And SafetySuit played quietly.
This song is disgustingly underrated and, with SafetySuit's always perfect lyrics and gorgeous instrumentation's, it deserves to be played on repeat.
The release date for SafetySuit's new single, "On Your Side", was recently pushed back from October 22 by the band, but should hopefully be released in a few weeks.

Hallelujah

I maintain that this is the best cover of "Hallelujah". Click on this link to see other covers and what I said about it earlier. If you don't feel like clicking the link (because you don't care) these are the highlights (because I'm going to force you to look at it anyways).
  • Was written using a compound duple meter in the C major chord and grows upon itself with each layered track.
  • C is basic enough that anyone can hit that note without sounding awful.
  • It was mirrored after waltz and gospel music styling's, resulting in a dance-able beat with a lot of passion.
  • Cohen wrote so many verses for the song (over 80!) that it's easy to find a handful which you feel best represent your feelings and put together a cover that, while sounding generic to some, will still hold special meaning for you.
There are thousands of covers of this song because it's easy, gorgeous, and always a crowd favorite, but SafetySuit's cover may be the best simply because they are one of very few popular bands who seem to understand the absolute importance of placing their emotion into the music itself, rather than allowing their vocal inflection or lyrics to shoulder all the weight. The music is always there, it's always going to carry a song through to its end, but with musicology and composition being so important to me, I will fall in love with your music completely if you can put your emotions into the track's instrumentation. A slowly picked guitar that jumps into a frenzied riff in no time at all, a constantly jumping violin that seems to mimic an heartbeat quickening its pace, and a steady drum that solidly offers its support throughout make this cover amazing. Of course, vocal inflection still holds some importance, so when Brown chooses to scream "hallelujah" in a sort of desperate manner rather than offering up a softly sung and pretty line for people to sway along to, it's absolute perfection.

Staring At It

It's SafetySuit Saturday again (!) which means I get to shove my slight obsession onto all of you beautiful people.
If you aren't excited for the new album, make sure to check out a review of The Saving Pointe's Sunny Days & Starry Nights (pre-order here), Sahara Beck's gorgeous single "C'Mon Man You're Dead", Echosmith's debut album Talking Dreams, or any of the music from this week's New Music Monday instead.
SafetySuit has not released the official release date for their third album, but their single, "On Your Side", is set for an October 22 release date on iTunes.

Let Go

There are so many reasons why "Let Go" is the best music video SafetySuit has put out, but this video jumps all over the place and, with so many great things happening at once, you could watch it on repeat and still not catch everything; there are a few things that are worth pointing out though.
1) That wink at the 0:26 mark is a rival only to that of Lucille Bluth's.
2) The dancing from 0:28 to 0:30 looks like my dancing when I pull out all the stops: amazing. Actually, the dancing throughout the entire video is perfect and makes the band even more likable.
3) "Everybody hurts sometimes" at the 0:39 mark: I once had a guy look at me like that and, while I can't seem to remember his name or the circumstances, I do remember thinking "I need to leave".
4) Brown has a singing conversation with himself for a good fifteen seconds starting at the 1:22 mark and I'm fairly positive that he's the only artist that could pull this off while making it look artsy and fun (as opposed to artsy and weird).
5) Starting around 1:52, every time that drum is beat, the item on the table next to it changes, growing progressively more explosive as the video continues.
6) Around 1:53, the bassist and guitarist become engaged in a battle of tug of war, using one another's legs as leverage.
7) That 2:36 mark is amazing (especially when played on repeat) because the combination of the disco ball, Brown's face, that whisper, and the actions of the man next to him (also Brown, just a different shot) all coincide to make the most fantastic one second of band coverage.
8) Brown shows off his palm at the 2:45 mark, featuring writing that states "I love you mom", and it makes the entire video adorable.
9) There is confetti and dancing everywhere and the band seems far too fun for anyone to ever have a reason to claim that they're not a fan.
Basically, just sit back, watch the video, dance, and get ready to buy SafetySuit's third album; the first single, "On Your Side" (check out a clip here) will be released on iTunes October 22.

Annie

This song meant a lot more to me in high school when I was still taking classes with the same people who knew me in middle school than it does now, but it's still an adorable song and it deserves so, so much more credit than others with the same message; it's better than Gomez's "Who Says" or Pink's "Fuckin' Perfect", yet it never received the same nod of recognition as those did, and that's a little pathetic.
Listen to "Annie", share it around, and make sure you continue to get excited for SafetySuit's upcoming third album; "On Your Side" will be available on iTunes October 22nd.

These Times

After releasing These Times in January 2012 and their Hallelujah EP in August 2012, SafetySuit is already hard at work on their next album which they have stated they want to have ready for release by the end of 2013. I may be a little overly excited for SafetySuit's next album because they're really awesome (and their music is adorable and wonderful and they never put out a subpar track), so I'll just put their music out on the blog on weekends until their third studio album is released.
"These Times" got into the US Adult Top 40 after its release (the album itself hit number one on the US Top Digital Album charts) and a rough clip of one of their new songs, set for release on their third studio album, was leaked, and it's gorgeous (click here to listen to the new song clip).
