Halloween Playlist

I love Halloween, a lot, and while this playlist is shortened from my own and has some duplicates from last year (missing classics like "Time Warp" and, the always expected, "Thriller", and repeating awesome songs like "House of Wolves" and "You Raised a Vampire"), it's still stuffed full of great music that's perfect for the holiday.
"Blood Red" The Maine
"Venus In Fleurs" Grimes
"Creature Feature" Sensual Harassment
"Hysteria" Muse
"Killin' It" Foxy Shazam
"Rotten to the Core" The Builders and The Butchers
"Infinitesimal" Mother Mother
"If Looks Could Kill" Camera Obscura
"All the Cool Girls Are Dead" The Pink Spiders
"Afraid" The Neighbourhood
"Reno" Gods of Macho
"Monster" Skillet

"She Scares Me" Dubkiller (click this link for a free download; it's not in the YouTube playlist [this is the instrumental; get the version with Mark Victor and RockMafia here. Both versions are free])
       Happy Halloween!

Road Trip

Road trips are the best and, now that I have a car that won't break down (knock on wood), it's even better (you know you have to give in and buy a different car when the tow truck guy recognizes you and doesn't ask where to tow the car).
So, if you're headed on a road trip, you can turn the volume up and stay awake. If you're not headed out on a road trip, then just sing-along, because these songs are perfect for that.

Australia

Australia has always been my dream place to work because the music that comes out of there is kind of perfect and, with the internet making the world appear so much smaller, it's time to start bringing some of these bands over to the US.
Check out the list, choose your favorites, and support them by visiting their websites (click the band names for a link to their website), buying their music, and letting your friends know how awesome they are.
"Fortress" Dialekt (feat. Xy)
"Everything You WantedClubfeet (the video's almost better than the song. Almost)
"Lonely Girl" Tonight Alive (on that note, get your tickets for The Other Side Tour; the line-up's great)

"Big Bad World" Kodaline
"Nicotine" Panic! At the Disco

And Dance

Last night, at the height of studying for my last exam, I ran into a "fuck this, fuck you, and fuck your face" moment, but it has finally, thankfully, evolved into fuck yes. Crushed it. I'm awesome. Now dance.
"Come On Eileen" Dexy's Midnight Runners
"Four Simple Words" Frank Turner
"Electric Dusk" Gloryhound
"Where Will We Go" Iamdynamite
"I Love You" Said the Whale
"Wake Me Up" Avicii

Listen Now

The only thing that could make the start of the regular hockey season better (aside from the Capitals [or anyone, really] beating those Blackhawks) is finding a song that sucks you in completely and can be played on repeat without being ruined.
Until I have the time to put up longer posts about these bands and artists, check out this playlist for awesome music you should be listening to now. Listen and choose your favorite; they're all amazing.
"Never Gonna Give You Up" Julian Taylor Band (fairly positive I've played this at least twenty times today..)
"The Monster" The Saving Pointe (I've only just begun to listen to this band but I am so very hooked)
"IamJesseScott" Jesse Scott (with a great hook and a fun beat, I have to hit replay)
"Dreaming" Smallpools (Smallpools will be famous. Listen to their music before radio play makes you sick of it)
"Follow My Feet" The Unlikely Candidates (if it hasn't begun to play on your radio yet, it will soon)
"Far Too Young To Die" Panic! At The Disco (if I ever fangirl, it will be over P!ATD)
"Sloppy Seconds" Watsky (Cardboard Castles has been out for six months now. Stop procrastinating and listen)
"You and Your Crown" Matthew Mole (his gorgeously laid-back style begs to be played on repeat)
"House on Fire" Black Taxi (fall in love now; it's only a matter of time before it's everywhere)
"Man Overboard" Seasick Mama (that composition is perfect and the lyrics are awesome)
"Brand New Day" Kodaline (Kodaline's fame was set the second "All I Want" went viral)
"Lost Track of Time" MTNS (a hypnotically, pulsing melody will have you sucked in within the first minute)
"Care" Hudson Taylor (their music has been ridiculously underrated up until recently)
"Superlove" Robinson (it's so laid-back and adorable that I can't get enough)
"Gentle Folks" Hunter Hunted (their lyrics have been amazing since the first Lady Danville EP)
"Bride & Groom" The Airborne Toxic Event (I'll just keep going to concerts until they add this to their set list)
The Saving Pointe's Sunny Days & Starry Nights is set for release November 5th.
Panic!'s Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die will be released October 8th.
Smallpools four track, self-titled debut EP was released in July and is available on iTunes.
Follow My Feet EP was released last week and every song is amazing; get it on iTunes or Amazon.
Watsky is still on his Hug A Hater tour. Check to see if there's a date near you.
Matthew Mole's The Home We Built has been topping the South African charts for good reason; get your copy on iTunes.
"House on Fire" is the bonus track on Chiaroscuro released in September and available on iTunes.
A Perfect World, Kodaline's first full length album, will be released in the US October 8th.
Hudson Taylor will be setting out on tour with Kodaline; check to see if there are dates near you.
Hunter Hunted's debut self-titled EP was re-released last month and, if you like listening to good music, you need to get it.
After finishing their Such Hot Blood tour in the US, TATE released the album in the UK September 30th and have recently begun their European tour. Check to see if you can make any of the dates because they're amazing live.

9/26

If there's one good thing about having both a ruptured disc and a hyper-extended knee (aside from the super hilarious jokes about how I should be locked in a cushioned room [really guys, it's still so original...]) it's that I'm stuck on a couch with no work or outside activities; i.e. I have plenty of extra time to get back on track with the blog and to work on bringing you guys an awesome new segment that I've had in the works (without the free-time to carry it out) for a little while now.
Until that's up and ready though, chill out with this playlist, because there was so much new music this month that I think two playlists are needed to feature all the great music. And, unlike some of the other playlists which feature songs only in the spirit of getting it out there, most of this comes from my personal playlist and I have to play every song a minimum of two times before I can move on; they're all pretty awesome.
"Take Yours, I'll Take Mine" Matthew Mole (I'm addicted)
"Hopeless Wanderer" Flora Cash (a cover, but still utterly gorgeous)
"2+2=5, You Suck" The Saving Pointe (it's the first song I heard from these guys and now I'm hooked)
"Down to the Sea" Elephant Revival (their albums should be in your music library by now; too beautiful to ignore)
"Roar" Katy Perry (I don't even care; I love it)
"Waiting On Cinderella" Robinson (I can't stop playing this on repeat)
"Lost Track of Time" MTNS (hypnotic, addictive, and gorgeous)
"Man Overboard" Seasick Mama (why is this not yet famous?)
"House On Fire" Black Taxi (this too?)
"Hurricane" Katey Laurel (click this to hear a clear recording because the instrumentation's perfect)
"It's Not Too Late" Mansions on the Moon (good indie-techno is so refreshing)
"Break Free" Sultanov (who knew Russia could compete with Canada for the best indie-rock sound?)
"Slaver" Pompeya (it just gets better with each listen)
"Wrecking Ball" Miley Cyrus (yes, I still support her, wholeheartedly)
"This Game Is Over" Alejandro Sanz featuring Jamie Foxx & Emeli Sande (..it's Jamie Foxx)
Everything that has been released this month or which I have received is more than amazing and I get so excited every time I check my inbox now. Keep it up and, if you've been thinking about sending in music and haven't done so yet, do it now (the timing's perfect because I literally cannot run away from it); I'd love to talk with you.

9/15

I'm finally back on time with my monthly playlist! I feel an odd sort of pride in my ability to finally fall back into some sort of an organizational schedule (even if it is only my way of procrastinating because I really cannot summon the energy needed to complete my schoolwork).
Some of these songs are not on YouTube (and, therefore, are not in the linked playlist) so make to click on titles like "The Good Die Young", "Tell Me" and "Waiting On Cinderella" to listen to the songs.
"Home Sweet Home" Russell Howard
"Chasing Rubies" Hudson Taylor
"Down to the Sea" Elephant Revival
"Brand New Day" Kodaline
"Haunted" Leagues
"I Love You" Said the Whale
"The Way We Touch" WE ARE TWIN

"House On Fire" Black Taxi

8/20

I'll be starting off the first week back to class by heading back to Indiana to be with family and I just don't have the motivation necessary to put together a nice playlist that includes all the music that is sent to me and the latest singles. Due to this lack of enthusiasm, and after missing the 15th of the month playlist (again), rather than presenting you guys with the customary constructed list, this is my personal playlist.
After the funeral and some family time, I will be more than ready to get back on track and distract myself with album reviews of Dear You's and Andrew Belle's latest releases (Faith, Fear, and Hope and Black Bear, respectively [because they're both great]) but, for now, I'm just going to leave you guys with the songs circling on repeat on my playlist.
"Lay Me Down" Benhur
"World Without You" Hudson Taylor
"Dance So Good" Wakey!Wakey!
"On Top of the World" Fever Fever

Past Year's Bands to Watch

As the blog comes upon it's first full year of publication, I'm stuck between feeling sad that I have spent so much time over the past year hanging out on a computer and proud that I've actually made it through a year like this without missing too many posts. In the past few months, the blog has also grown to include a few more sites, aside from the original Gmail and YouTube, to include Twitter, Google+, and Myspace (though I'm not great at using the last two; I'm more comfortable with Facebook, though I can't use that confidently as a magazine has dubbed themselves 'The Music Rag'. The hell? I spent two weeks looking for a name no one else had used. I just. I'm so. Ugh. People. Fucking Australia.).. I honestly have no clue where I was before my rant..
Check out the websites (click on the links in the lower left hand corner of the blog [under 'contact me'] or here: Myspace, Google+, Twitter, YouTube) and listen to a playlist composed, solely, of this past year's 'bands to watch'. All of the music is awesome and all the bands have a sound with the ability to stand out in the business (I wouldn't promote them if they didn't).

Party

The only disappointing part of today was finding out that I was supposed to soak the fruit in brandy overnight, instead of starting that at nine this morning. Oops.

7/17 (Michaelson and Mika)

It's rather quickly spun into one of those days where all you need is to douse yourself in a lot of Mika and Ingrid Michaelson and drive to the island, with all the windows down, for your private sunset.
It's a (very) shortened list of Michaelson's and Mika's work, but just hit shuffle and play and it'll still be pretty perfect. Both of these artists are deliriously underrated, but so so good.
"Giving Up" Ingrid Michaelson
"Keep Breathing" Ingrid Michaelson
"You and I" Ingrid Michaelson
"Be OK" Ingrid Michaelson
"Everybody" Ingrid Michaelson
"Masochist" Ingrid Michaelson

"Palm of Your Hand" Ingrid Michaelson
"Turn to Stone" Ingrid Michaelson
"Blue Eyes" Mika
"Stardust" Mika
"Overrated" Mika
"Kick Ass" Mika
"Grace Kelly" Mika

7/9

Hiking after a rain is usually fun because you get extra dirty and the rocks are slick enough to slide down.
Hiking after a week of flood warnings is not fun because the water's too rough to swim in and tends to wash the edge of the trails into the river itself.
Regardless, being stuck inside with a laptop and a hotspot while the storm rages on outside can't be too bad as long as you have great music (having good company helps too).
While I wait for the rain to cease, I'll just throw together a playlist for you guys because I can't get enough of Gloryhound's "TKO Tokyo" or Benhur's "Lay Me Down" (I must have listened to it at least ten times before yesterday's hike; you know, apart from all the other times I've listened to it), "Walking Disasters" is always amazing, I have no clue how New Medicine is not yet famous and, even after all this time, "Vienna" is still the best song ever written (or composed or recorded or put into existence; it's pure perfection).
"Big Jet Plane" Angus and Julia Stone
"Lay Me Down" Benhur
"Plain Sailing Weather" Frank Turner
"Can't Go Home" Good Old War
"Erase Me" Kid Cudi featuring Kanye West
"TKO Tokyo" Gloryhound
"Quiet Little Voices" We Were Promised Jetpacks
"Red" Cattle & Cane
"Vienna" Billy Joel
"Spotlight" LEAGUES
"Bride & Groom" The Airborne Toxic Event
- E

Repeat

Some songs that have been mentioned in the past (and some more recently) deserve to be played on repeat now (and forever). They're all perfectly awesome.

"Bright Lights" Matchbox Twenty
"Sun Goes Down" New Medicine (check them out here)
"Texas Rain" Sleeperstar (check them out here)
"Brand New Day" Kodaline (check them out here)
"Sold My Soul" Cattle & Cane
"Take Your Time (Coming Home)" Fun. (after all their fame and top 40 radio singles, this is still their best song)

"Reckless" San Cisco
"Walking Disasters" The Wombats (check them out here)
"Take You Higher" Goodwill & Hook N Sling
"Gentle Folks" Hunter Hunted (check them out here [if you want more music like this, check out Lady Danville])
"Things That Stop You Dreaming" Passenger (check him out here)
"Calm My Soul" Paper Route (check them out here- I was briefly concerned that I only fell for the band's music
because of the timing of their latest album but, listening to their music once again, I love it simply because
Paper Route can create absolute perfection in a single song. I'm forever repeating this song)
